Clean and Green Fifth Grade Program Guide

Keep Iowa Beautiful has worked with area education and environmental agencies to develop a broad-reaching beautification, service learning and environmental initiative for youth--Clean and Green. The program is making a difference not only in the environment, but also on the positive development of Iowa youth. The Fifth Grade program offers 21 lessons that combine best practice and educational research. Each lesson can be used alone, but are more powerful when used as a comprehensive unit. Click here for the Fifth Grade lessons matrix.

Clean & Green teaches the essential concepts of the Iowa Core, the Common Core State Standards, and incorporates the six pillars of CHARACTER COUNTS! in Iowa. By Fifth Grade, kids are ready to participate in service-learning projects, which encourage students to connect with and participate in their school and community. The Fifth Grade lessons are designed as a plan to help teachers involve kids in investigation, planning, action, reflection, demonstration and celebration as they carry out their service projects.

Please provide feedback about your experience with the program by emailing Martha McCormick and/or completing the Clean and Green survey.
