Sawyer School Composting

31-Mar-2014

Sawyer Elementary in Ames will use their Beautiful Iowa School award to develop a school-wide composting project. Third to Fifth grade students will calculate waste created during lunch by grade level using lessons from Teachers Going Green on composting such as--

Kids will learn about civic responsibility in waste management. Sawyer's goals are:

  • to raise student awareness of the need for responsible waste management
  • to collect enough organic matter for the community school garden
Their work lines up nicely with work at Cornell University in New York.
