Kids Step Up

I just heard about the kids from Sun Valley School in Marin, California who use their lunch periods to learn about environmental issues. Last year, they discovered that Crayola makes half a billion plastic markers each year that aren't even recyclable! So the kids wrote a letter of protest to Crayola.

When they didn’t even get a response, they started a nationwide campaign to get Crayola to take back their markers and recycle their products. So far, more than 87,000 people have joined their cause. Even though Crayola hasn't changed their policies (yet), the kids have learned that if one path to change is blocked, another mayopen. They’ve learned that sharing your story might inspire others to take action; and that allies can come from unlikely corners.
