Hy-Vee One Step Garden Grants, Due February 1

One Step Community Garden Grants may be awarded to organizations whose core focus teaches those in need about health and nutrition through the process of planting, tending and harvesting their own fruits and vegetables. Consideration will be given to those gardens in the Hy-Vee trade area that focus on donation and education.

Teachers Going Green is collaborating with ISU Polk County Extension, Des Moines Public Schools, and Food Corps to facilitate School Garden 101 at two locations in the Des Moines Metro. Watch TGG News for more details about the five-week course.

School Garden 101 will cover subjects like:

  • Summer in the garden (with no students); what to do?
  • Garden curriculum and lesson plans (Find grade-level garden units here)
  • Vision, goals, tasks and roles

Community cooperation is the best way to ensure a successful garden. Meet other gardeners at School Garden 101. Tuesday evenings from 5:30-8:30 pm February 9-March 8. Help us plan by completing this survey.
