Getting Kids Outdoors

27-Apr-2015

Shelly Johnson and naturalists from Polk County Conservation begin a new program TODAY at Studebaker Elementary School on Des Moines' south side. Getting Kids Outdoors is funded by a mini-grant from the State of Iowa’s REAP program.

Shelly will teach a mapping activity from Teachers Going Green to increase teachers' comfortable in taking students outdoors. The program will use an outdoor classroom at Fort Des Moines Park, which is within walking distance of Studebaker.

Having such a great resource nearby provides priceless opportunities for students to explore and experience nature. With the pressures facing today’s teachers, time and resources for outdoor and environmental education are precious. But Getting Kids Outdoors can help develop young people to achieve their full potential.
